Programme Profile
The 6S20232 National Tour Guide programme at Dunhill MEC will provide participants with the skills, knowledge and competencies to deliver and manage a comprehensive tour management and guiding service for tourists visiting and travelling in Ireland.
Programme Objectives
- To prepare and train participants to work as guides within the Irish tourism industry.
- To give participants the skill and competence to manage tour groups including the health and safety of tourists in their charge.
- To facilitate participant understanding of the significance and delivery mechanisms of a high level of customer care and guest engagement.
- To equip participants with the skills necessary to develop and deliver a professional guided tour service that responds to the technical, social and administrative needs of different Fáilte Ireland market segments and profiles.
- To develop participant’s knowledge of best practice in the heritage tourism product provision industry with particular focus on interpretation, storytelling, visitor engagement, and the principles of Leave No Trace.
- To provide participants with the ability to assess and respond to a range of issues within the tourism industry including the legislative framework, the work of the main agencies and industry bodies, sustainability, protection and preservation of heritage.
- To develop understanding, appreciation of Irish culture and heritage through research, interpretation and delivery of tourism information.
- To interpret and understand key aspects of Irish history and archaeology.

Delivery: Onsite Delivery and Assessment, Visits and Familiarisation Trips.
Cost: €1,800.
Students who have undertaken any of the modules listed within the last 5 years would be eligible for an exemption on these modules.
